Building Code Assessment and Occupant Load Calculations
This take out restaurant opened for business in 2016. The approved building permit at that time listed a conservative 10 person occupant load and correspondingly the liquor license was capped at this amount. Now that business is going well, the restaurant Owner wanted to explore options for increasing occupant load (seated customers) and obtaining a higher capacity liquor license. Restrictions were that the Owner was not going to expand floor area or undergo interior renovations to add washrooms. The new occupant load had to work with existing washroom count. Together we went through a couple scenarios for possible ways to increase occupant load while respecting restrictions. Next steps is to apply for building permit amendment with the city and also apply for a new liquor license.
